MAKEUP FOR TEENS
This post is for all the teens out there:
Your teens can be challenging years when it comes to skin. Puberty causes your body to increase its production of sebum (oil secreted by your sebaceous glands), leading to blocked pores and spots. But making the effort to understand your skin and getting a good skincare routine put in place can make all the difference, and sets you up well for the coming decades!
To give yourself a fighting chance skin needs to be cleansed effectively morning and night, Use a sulfate-free cleanser so no more harsh products like Clearasil, we do not want to further irritate the skin. I recommend those containing salicylic acid or witch hazel:
This helps loosen the build-up of dead skin cells that can block the pores.
Avoid sulphates, alcohol, mineral oils and fragrances, which can all irritate the skin and/or lead to breakouts. If you have acne, never try to dry your skin out as it will naturally start to produce more oil, making acne feel painful and look worse. Gentle and thorough is the way forward.
Then apply an oil-free moisturiser to keep the skin supple and hydrated.
Make sure your hands are always extremely clean Your hair is clean your towels and bed sheets etc are clean as these all aid infraction and contamination in the skin making spots look more inflamed. So cleanliness and hygiene is key to minimising those flare ups.
If you squeeze spots too soon you’ll just make a hole in your face that will scab and take a week to heal. Leave any whiteheads to the last possible moment and only squeeze using a tissue stopping before you draw blood! I know it’s hard but spots will go away if they are just left.
If you suffer quite badly then consult your doctor there are solutions… Don’t suffer needlessly!!!!
When it comes to make up choose an oil free formula of foundation! Good coverage will boost your confidence and there’s NO EVIDENCE to support make up causes spots as long as you cleanse morning and night
The best coverage foundations out there in my opinion are Estée Lauder double wear, Mac studio fluid and pro long wear, Clinique beyond perfecting. These are more pricey but I can honestly say it’s the best you’re skin will look compared to cheaper brands so do save up if you can!!! Get colour matched and ask for a sample to try before you part with your money, even ask for two different shades! Oh, and If you prefer a powder foundation then go for bare minerals it’s quite kind to skin and builds coverage too.
Always add a pop of blush or bronzer and play up your eyes brows and lips, just subtly though, to detract the attention from your skin if your self conscious.
Remember all photos you see online or magazines are airbrushed so please don’t compare yourself, it really is a fallacy the skin you see on fb and Instagram We all know the apps that brush out blemishes, so don’t be so hard on yourself. Perfect lives and perfect skin don’t really exist ????
Lastly try to Remember this WILL pass, ask yourself do you want to spend your days shying and hiding away just because of your skin?
Missing out and not being your fabulous self! You really are much more than a few blemishes, so shine bright and choose to forget about it!
I know it might sound flippant but you can choose that!! Let’s face it, You’re probably making much more of it than it really is anyway, us girls tend to do that right?
Good Luck
